The funds will be used in the construction of "Green Built" homes in the Nature's Way subdivision in Menasha. Green Built homes go a step beyond Energy Star guidelines and are constructed according to specific criteria developed by the Wisconsin Environmental Initiative. Ralph L. Evans, Menasha vice president of Human Resources and Foundation president, said, "The Menasha Corporation Foundation is proud to assist Habitat for Humanity with its efforts to provide decent, affordable housing for people who have been dreaming of owning a home. Green Built homes will reduce the amount of energy required to heat, cool and maintain the residences while continuing to be affordable for the new homeowners." The Foundation re-aligned its funding categories earlier this year in support of its Philanthropic Vision and currently focuses giving in four areas: safe and healthy citizens, an educated society, community betterment and environmental sustainability. "Planning and construction of houses has a definite environmental impact," said John Weyenberg, Habitat Executive Director. "Considerations such as size of the home, the amount of insulation, window design and placement and type of materials used are critical environmental issues when building. We're proving that our style of building can be done economically and efficiently and in full compliance with extensive environmental guidelines." Habitat for Humanity will build 14 homes in the Fox Cities and surrounding communities in 2007. At least six will be Green Built. Habitat expects its first two Green Built homes will be completed in August. About Menasha Corporation Foundation About Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity
